Sunrise
Inspiration finds us in so many different ways. Sometimes you will find in the dirt, soft speckles and kernels reflecting light in different ways, sometimes it will be another’s encouraging words, sometimes you can dig it deep out of your self, or maybe it is in the sunrise or sunset. I have completed my first year of being employed fulltime (the first time in a long time), it hasn’t been an easy but I have seen a lot of sunrises over the past year and found something, in the glory of the rising sun. Without excuses with out tire, the sun rises every day and in that there is inspiration. We must sometimes do what we don’t want to, but we also must listen to our whispers, as Kelly Rae Roberts writes in her first book Taking Flight. Whispers, yes we all have them, the voices that knew at us, overwhelm us or even go unnoticed but they are there in our subconscious or conscious minds. These voices can and will provide us our inspiration if we can listen.
For me it is not the difficulty of not listening or having no whispers, but rather having so many they drawn each other out, they overwhelm my mind and pull me in a million directions. I end up with a plate full of I wants and not much to show for it. So I am working on remembering that this day, that I have right now, is one of many days that I will have. That this year and even this decade is not my last and there is time to do pieces of all my whispers, but that I just must slow down and focus. I must tame my wings to rest a bit before their next frantic flight.
With a new President, who in his powerful inauguration speech, asks us all to take responsibility personally and collectively, and while on one hand he acknowledges the state of things the difficulties that face us as a country and individuals, he also instills hope, and for that I am thankful. For without hope we have nothing. America has found hope and inspiration in President Obama, to do what is needed for our country. I wake up, and there again, the sun splits into golden oranges streaking across the sky and I find my very own hope and inspiration. It is not just today that we have but our futures too.
